Social Media Marketing Myths Busted-part 1

In today’s era where humans are dependent on the Internet for their day to day tasks, everybody is familiar with and actively involved on social media platforms.

Just because we have our personal accounts on a few social media channels doesn’t mean that we know everything about social media marketing. Social media is a deep space where a number of things are possible. And with the digital space taking a leap ahead, social media has become a favorite spot of users and businesses as well.

Although many businesses have a social media presence, they still find it difficult to achieve their goals. A majority of the credit for the failure goes to the social media marketing myths that they fall prey to.

Here are some of the social media marketing myths and facts:

Presence on social media

Myth– Having a presence on every social media channel is important.

Truth– Having a presence on relevant social media channels is important.

There is no doubt that social media is a powerful tool. But having a presence on every social media channel is not the key to success. If you are a divorce paralegal, it is imperative for you to have an account on LinkedIn, whereas it is not so important to have a strong presence on Pinterest.

Make an account on social media channels where your target audience spends most of their time. Have a social media presence on channels where your target audience spends the maximum amount of the time. You should have a clear motive on why you need social media presence for your business. So, it is a good idea to do a little bit of research before spreading your business over all social media platforms.

Posting time on social media

Myth– You can post at any time on social media channels.

Truth – Every social media platform is different and has an optimum time that attracts users.

You can refer to various analyzed data from the past marketing campaigns to see at what time are the users most active. According to reports, posting on LinkedIn on Tuesdays and Thursdays gets the greatest amount of engagement. But this may vary from business to business, so you need to locate your user’s favourite time and when they are active.

We recommend using Google analytics to locate the time when a majority of your users engage with your business posts.

Excessive promotion means success

Myth– More business promotion means better business growth.

Truth – Aggressive business promotions often annoy the users.

Try keeping business promotion limited. If you really want to engage with your users, don’t do it through business promotions. Users are least interested in business promotions. Thus, businesses that think excessive promotions will result in business success are highly mistaken.

Consider yourself as a user. Why do you log into your social media channels? Are you interested in business promotions? Or are you looking for something that you can enjoy?

Social media acts as a platform where businesses and users can interact with each other to achieve their personal aims. Engage your users with interesting content that they like seeing from you. If you don’t know what your users would like to see from you, simply ask them through polls or forms!

Followers will definitely follow back

Myth– Users will definitely follow you back on social media channels.

Truth – Users will follow back if your business offers something that they can benefit from.

Remember, it is called social media for a reason. The users are not there to see the promotional posts of businesses. If you think users will follow back, let us tell you that this won’t work in the long run and is probably going to give you temporary results.

Your business needs to offer something that adds value to your users.  Instead, they will follow you once they realize your business posts are beneficial to them in a certain way. To not miss any updates from you, they will follow your business profile.
